MEMPHIS, Tenn., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- St. Jude Children's Research Hospital(R), one of the world's premier pediatric cancer research centers, has once again joined forces with Univision Radio, the leading Spanish-language radio group in the United States, in its annual radiothon to help St. Jude find cures and save children.

During the radiothon Promesa y Esperanza (Promise and Hope), taking place February 5 and 6, listeners can pledge their donations by calling 1-800-998-VIDA (8432) or by visiting www.promesayesperanza.org. The event will be broadcast to more than 15 markets around the country, including Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, New York and Puerto Rico.

Through Univision Radio's support, the Hispanic community will learn about the St. Jude mission and have the opportunity to help save the lives of children by becoming Angeles de Esperanza (Partners in Hope) by donating $20 each month. These generous donations help St. Jude keep its promise that no child is ever denied treatment because of the family's inability to pay.

"The dedication of Univision Radio and generosity of its listeners will give hope to St. Jude patients and their families as they fight cancer and other deadly diseases," said David L. McKee, interim CEO and chief operating officer of ALSAC, the fundraising organization of St. Jude.

"We are honored to once again partner with St. Jude to bring hope to patients and their families through the Promesa y Esperanza radiothon," said Gary Stone, president and chief operating officer, Univision Radio. "The response from our listeners and employees - our Univision family - has been inspiring and speaks to our commitment to contributing to St. Jude's mission of helping save children's lives."

One-year old Christian Mendoza from Mexico is one such child who is fighting for his life at St. Jude. When Christian was 4 months old, his mother Mayra discovered a small dark spot in one of his eyes. When Mayra noticed that the spot continued to grow larger, she took Christian to a local hospital where he was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a type of cancer in the eyes. The doctors immediately referred Christian to St. Jude where he is now receiving treatment to save his life and his sight.
